Matthew Szymanski is an artist and architect working in Chapel Hill, NC. His design work is marked by its crisp minimal solutions. His artwork, in contrast, is recognizable for it’s unique use of bright color and contrast. Most of his pieces focus on texture and the layering of media. Most of his paintings are done with acrylic, but he often uses other media such as paper clippings, wax, varnishes, pastels, ink, oils, and salts.

The subject matter varies from plants to everyday consumer objects. Recent subject have included singlewide trailers, lawn chairs, and light bulbs. Nature is also an ongoing inspirations as can be seen in some of his small works of collage and paint focusing on leaves and petals, as well as his large mixed medium paintings of landscapes and trees.
